Felicity & Chris: Sunny Outdoor Wedding at Huntsmill Farm

Felicity and Chris’s wedding took me back to one of my favourite venues, the lovely Huntsmill Farm in Buckinghamshire, which I’d not been to for two years thanks to the pandemic!

Due to coronavirus restrictions, they kept it to just 30 guests and it was such a joy to document their intimate day. It started with a buzz of excitement as the girls got ready at Blacksmiths Cottage, before heading over to the Old Dairy to get changed into their outfits. Felicity wore a Cizzy Bridal dress with a matching veil, featuring delicate embroidered polkadots scattered along the end of the veil. Her bouquet was perfect for a June wedding, filled with vibrant wildflowers and beautiful pink peonies (my favourite!)

They were one of the first couples to have an outdoor ceremony at Huntsmill Farm and it was an honour to capture them saying their vows under The Shed, overlooking the Buckinghamshire countryside. Their ceremony was led by a friend and I always love these sorts of ceremonies best that showcase their personality and story as a couple!

After a shower of petal confetti, everyone enjoyed drinks in the sunshine whilst the barn was set up for dinner: long tables, big urns of wildflowers and that rustic vibe that Huntsmill always excels at.

During their drinks reception, Felicity and Chris stepped into the barn with a few close family members to make it legal with short but sweet civil ceremony. Speeches before dinner made for a lovely transition into the next part of the day and I loved capturing everyone’s reactions as their nearest and dearest spoke. Everyone enjoyed barbecue food for the wedding breakfast and after dinner everyone sprawled out into the gardens to make the most of the garden games which quickly got competitive!

Huntsmill sunsets are the best and we were so fortunate to be treated to one, making the most of the beautiful golden hour light as the newlyweds took a quiet moment away from the wedding madness.

One of the things I loved most about their day was how they adapted to the restrictions - at this point you couldn’t have indoor dancing so they decided to have a silent disco outside in the courtyard instead! It was such a fantastic idea and it made for great photos capturing everyone dancing under the festoon lights as the sun set.

I can’t begin to explain how much we love these!!! It has taken me right back to the day and they’ve just come out better than I could have imagined! We had a great day with you and felt so at ease, and we’ve had so many comments about how laid back and easy going you were, so thank you so much - it was exactly what we wanted.

Lizzie & Ben: Springtime Elopement at Huntingdon Registry Office

As for many wedding photographers, 2021 ended up being one of my busiest seasons ever between the existing weddings I had on the books and the many rescheduled weddings from 2020! And with restrictions still in place as we went into the new year, couples like Lizzie and Ben continued to adapt their plans to ensure they’d still be able to have the wedding they dreamed of.

When restrictions put a stop to their original plan for an April barn wedding, Lizzie and Ben decided to move their celebration to later on in the year and tie the knot at a smaller legal ceremony near to their original date. So on a quiet April morning, I met them at their local registry office to capture them exchanging their vows with just two close friends in attendance. It was small but incredibly meaningful and it was such an honour to be there.

Afterward, we headed out to take some portraits nearby, making the most of some beautiful church architecture that immediately caught my eye. From there, we wandered a little further to the river where we found a gorgeous stretch of blossom trees which made for the perfect backdrop. It’s one of my favourite things to shoot against and brings such a bright, springtime feel to couples photos!

Elopements like this are always a privilege to document, and it was such an honour to be invited to capture such an important moment in Lizzie and Ben’s story. I had so much fun with them and their friends and this always makes for fantastic photos.

With their full celebrant-led wedding planned for Suffolk later in the year, I left feeling so excited to see them again and continue to capture this new chapter in their lives.

Thank you SO much for these, they’ve totally made our day! You’re an absolute magician and helped make the day what it was.

Eilis & Tom: Buckinghamshire Church & Garden Wedding

Today I’m looking back over Eilis and Tom’s wedding, another brilliant example of how couples adapted during the pandemic with the fluctuating rules around weddings. With their original date in April a no-go due to lockdown, they decided to still get married in 2020 but scaled back their wedding from a big barn celebration with hundreds of guests to an intimate village church ceremony and garden party at home with their nearest and dearest.

Eilis got ready at her family home, a morning full of excitement with siblings, parents and little ones all weaving around the house. I always enjoy photographing prep in family homes, it adds a lovely layer of warmth and closeness to the start of the day. She wore a timeless sleeveless tulle dress with lace applique, and her bouquet of roses, dahlias, wildflowers and greenery suited the day perfectly.

The ceremony took place at St Michael’s and All Angels Church in Stewkley. It’s a beautiful village church and their sunny wedding day created the most dramatic light inside. Tom looked sharp as he met Eilis at the end of the aisle in his full army dress uniform, and I loved their non-stop smiles throughout the ceremony. A moment that has stayed with me from their day has to be her lovely dad giving her away whilst holding one of his grandchildren in his arms to stop him running all over the place!

After the ceremony, guests threw petal confetti outside the church before heading back to the family home for drinks in the garden. As we got there the wind suddenly picked up and blew Eilis’ veil right off of her head!

Just before I left, we took a few quiet minutes out for portraits in the orchard. It was such a lovely peaceful moment and it felt so meaningful to capture this new chapter in a place that meant so much to them.

We just wanted to say a massive thank you for everything you did to make our day so special. We were so lucky to have you there and really loved your manner and how professional you were on the day. We have lots of the photos up around the house and all the relatives have said how lovely they are!

Abby & Chris: South Farm Ceremony & Intimate Garden Wedding

I think it’s safe to say that 2020 was a year like no other, especially for weddings, and among all the rescheduling I was so pleased to hear that Abby and Chris decided to go ahead and make the best of it. They’d originally booked the beautiful South Farm in Cambridgeshire for their wedding, and whilst things didn’t quite go to plan, they adapted their day and still had a fantastic celebration among the restrictions of the moment.

My day started capturing Abby and her bridesmaids getting ready at home, before heading to South Farm to finish their preparations in the bridal suite. Her floral embroidered Lillian West dress was perfect for a rustic, countryside wedding, and Chris looked great in his three-piece suit, complete with floral tie, pocket watch and double-breasted waistcoat. Abby carried a gorgeous bouquet of pink roses, astrantia and greenery that a family friend made for her.

Their ceremony took place in South Farm’s Tudor Barn, and with guests wearing personalised “Abby & Chris” face masks it makes these photos feel like a bit of a time capsule! But even the masks couldn’t hide the emotion in the room and the ceremony was heartfelt from start to finish.

Despite their change of plans, they still got to enjoy the beautiful South Farm grounds for their wedding day, including a joyful confetti moment in front of the iconic blue door, a relaxed drinks reception in the gardens and of course photos along the tree-lined driveway!

We headed back to their garden to celebrate the rest of the day with an intimate party in their garden. As they arrived home, a lovely community moment unfolded as their neighbours came out of their homes to congratulate them.

The garden looked fantastic with rustic lounge furniture and long tables under a stretch tent, where guests enjoyed a fantastic wedding breakfast of antipasti, summer salads and barbecue food. They toasted with limoncello shots as the speeches had everyone in stitches and tears, and Abby & Chris started the evening off with their first dance under festoon lights before the dancefloor filled up for the night.

Yogi & Simon: Cosy Winter Wedding at Eastington Park

When I look back on 2020 it’s easy to assume every wedding I photographed happened under lockdown restrictions, but Yogi and Simon’s February wedding at Eastington Park happened just 6 weeks before the first lockdown!

This one felt really special as I’d known the bride for years. It feels like a lifetime ago, but I used to be a fashion photographer and Yogi was one of the first models I’d ever worked with! We bonded over a shared love of cats and stayed in touch, so it was a real joy to be asked to capture their wedding day.

Eastington Park is an 18th century manor house in Gloucestershire, and it’s the perfect venue for a winter wedding. In the morning I met Yogi and her bridesmaids in the spacious bridal suite which was perfect for a relaxed morning as they had their hair and makeup done. The room was full of light which glittered off of Yogi’s intricately beaded dress as she got ready. Her bouquet was a mix of red and white roses, thistles and greenery which was just perfect for a winter wedding.

Simon was all smiles as he got ready with his groomsmen, making his entrance down the venue’s iconic spiral staircase to meet their guests (but not before a quick go on the tree swing of course - one of my favourite shots from the day!)

Their ceremony took place in a room overlooking the gardens, and it was filled with heartfelt moments and laughter. They celebrated with petal confetti outside before heading back indoors for a cosy drinks reception.

One thing I particularly love about winter weddings is the early golden hour and we were treated to a stunning sunset as their drinks reception drew to a close. I’m so glad Yogi and Simon braved the chill as we got the most beautiful shots - my favourite happening as they walked back inside, Yogi wrapped in a pashmina, Simon’s arm around her to keep her warm.

They made sure their cats were there in spirit through framed photos of them on the tables for the wedding breakfast and a brilliant cat origami competition that Yogi judged at the end of her speech! I loved seeing all the little cats that the guests had made lined up and it was such a fun and original idea that made their wedding personal to them.

The evening kicked off as Yogi changed into a gorgeous painted leather jacket that her girls had made for her hen do and completed the look with show stopping red lipstick. The DJ kept everyone on the dancefloor with a fantastic mix of hip-hop, funk and soul bangers and it was so much fun capturing a packed dancefloor to end the night.
