Yogi & Simon: Cosy Winter Wedding at Eastington Park

When I look back on 2020 it’s easy to assume every wedding I photographed happened under lockdown restrictions, but Yogi and Simon’s February wedding at Eastington Park happened just 6 weeks before the first lockdown!

This one felt really special as I’d known the bride for years. It feels like a lifetime ago, but I used to be a fashion photographer and Yogi was one of the first models I’d ever worked with! We bonded over a shared love of cats and stayed in touch, so it was a real joy to be asked to capture their wedding day.

Eastington Park is an 18th century manor house in Gloucestershire, and it’s the perfect venue for a winter wedding. In the morning I met Yogi and her bridesmaids in the spacious bridal suite which was perfect for a relaxed morning as they had their hair and makeup done. The room was full of light which glittered off of Yogi’s intricately beaded dress as she got ready. Her bouquet was a mix of red and white roses, thistles and greenery which was just perfect for a winter wedding.

Simon was all smiles as he got ready with his groomsmen, making his entrance down the venue’s iconic spiral staircase to meet their guests (but not before a quick go on the tree swing of course - one of my favourite shots from the day!)

Their ceremony took place in a room overlooking the gardens, and it was filled with heartfelt moments and laughter. They celebrated with petal confetti outside before heading back indoors for a cosy drinks reception.

One thing I particularly love about winter weddings is the early golden hour and we were treated to a stunning sunset as their drinks reception drew to a close. I’m so glad Yogi and Simon braved the chill as we got the most beautiful shots - my favourite happening as they walked back inside, Yogi wrapped in a pashmina, Simon’s arm around her to keep her warm.

They made sure their cats were there in spirit through framed photos of them on the tables for the wedding breakfast and a brilliant cat origami competition that Yogi judged at the end of her speech! I loved seeing all the little cats that the guests had made lined up and it was such a fun and original idea that made their wedding personal to them.

The evening kicked off as Yogi changed into a gorgeous painted leather jacket that her girls had made for her hen do and completed the look with show stopping red lipstick. The DJ kept everyone on the dancefloor with a fantastic mix of hip-hop, funk and soul bangers and it was so much fun capturing a packed dancefloor to end the night.

Katharine & Ross: Joyful Winter Wedding at St Michael's Manor Hotel, St Albans

February brought along the wedding of Katharine & Ross, who chose to marry in the beautiful setting of St Michael's Manor Hotel, in St Albans. It's an immaculately furnished venue and I was thrilled to find that their ceremony and dinner was to take place in a conservatory with huge windows - truly a photographers dream!

Katharine chose to get ready at home in London, so I met them both at the venue, and one of my favourite shots of the whole year has to be the black and white photograph of Katharine getting out of the wedding car. Her face absolutely beamed despite the rain and she looked incredible in a classic satin dress and carrying a bouquet of delicate white anemones - one of my favourite flowers.

As they said their vows there was so much joy and laughter, and it was a dream to shoot with the light pouring in through the windows. What I loved about this venue was that even though it rained all day, you can't tell as the venue is filled with light with big windows everywhere!

We took a few minutes out to shoot in the foyer and on the staircase, giving Katharine & Ross some time to just have a chat and enjoy each others company in a quiet moment amongst the madness of their wedding day. Congratulations you two and thank you so much for the privilege of capturing your day.

Christina & Chris: Musical Winter Wedding at Bath Abbey & Bath Guildhall

The one thing I’ll always remember about Christina & Chris’s wedding way was the music. With Chris as a professional trumpet player, it was only natural that their day was going to be filled with the most fantastic and consciously chosen music at every step along the way – and that’s exactly what it was.

The city of Bath was the backdrop for their day, firstly with their wedding ceremony at the stunning setting of Bath Abbey, followed by celebrations at Bath Guildhall.

I just gasped when I walked into the Abbey – it felt like a royal wedding with those tall ceilings, beautiful stained glass windows and the music that Chris had composed filling the room. The choir and band featured Chris’s friends and industry peers and it really felt like everybody joined forces to make their day as special and as personal as possible.

Christina looked beautiful as she walked down the aisle with her dad, carrying a bouquet of roses and eucalyptus, dotted with paper flowers made from sheet music. I’m pretty sure they spotted me tearing up at one point in the ceremony, half-hidden behind the giant Christmas tree as I shot their vows!

The beautiful carved wooden gates of the Abbey made for a beautiful backdrop as they left their ceremony to confetti, at one point with a guest chucking a whole box of it over Christina which of course made for a fantastic photo! Afterwards, we took a short walk to the Guildhall for their reception in the stunning ballroom, with tables themed on their love of gin and music.

During their speeches, they were treated to video messages of congratulations from their favourite rugby team as a wonderful surprise! The excellent music continued throughout their day, including during reception drinks and most importantly an incredible band in the evening, with vibrant colours lighting up the ballroom as they danced the night away.

Thank you both so much for having us along to capture your wonderful day!

Cat was the most stunning photographer we could have asked for on our wedding day. She captured every little look, every cute kid moment, every guest and every smile - especially the moments that passed us by in a whirlwind of a day. We ended up with the most stunning collection of images that we keep looking back on.

We had SO many compliments as well about Cat, her manner, her skill and her kindness. She managed to get the balance perfect between achieving the formal shots but not making them feel staged or forced, as well as all the beautiful, informal reportage shots.

I couldn’t have dreamt that someone would capture our day so perfectly and would recommend Cat to anyone in a heartbeat.

Rebecca & Mark: Winter Wedding at Rothley Court Hotel, Leicester

One of my favourite things about New Year’s Eve weddings is the fact that the couple will be celebrating in style every single year – what a fab thought. And of course no forgotten anniversaries for these guys!

I love when my job finds me amongst familiar faces and Rebecca & Mark’s day brought me exactly that as I’d photographer her sister Lucy’s wedding at Chicheley just two months earlier in October! It was wonderful to spend time with their lovely family again, and especially their gorgeous little girl Amelia. Sadly Lucy & Alex were unable to make the day but they were there for every moment with their dad on Skype duty! I loved that they had dressed up in their wedding outfits too for the Skype call - it was such a thoughtful touch.

Becky and her girls got ready in their sweet cottage, and headed to their heartfelt ceremony at the village church on horse and carriage! Becky wore a bespoke dress and headpiece by Lucie Green and carried a wintery bouquet of white roses and pine cones.

They left their ceremony to a sprinkling of confetti and afterward took a romantic horse and carriage ride back to the Rothley Court Hotel for drinks, food and dancing. Congratulations guys and thank you so much for having me along for the ride!

Big love to Lucy & Alex for asking one of my closest colleages Dan at Two-D Photography along to film the day - it’s always great fun working with him and his video captured the spirit of the day perfectly.

Jess & Martyn: Heartfelt & Intimate Wedding at Shepherd Neame Brewery, Faversham

My last wedding before Christmas was Jess & Martyn’s wonderfully intimate day at a really unique venue: the Shepherd Neame Brewery!

Jess looked gorgeous in a show stopping silvery beaded dress, carrying a unique bouquet of paper flowers made from comic book pages. She beamed as she walked down the aisle arm in arm with her father, under beams dripping with gorgeous dried hops. Their ceremony was short, sweet and full of emotion with Jess’s brother doing a reading of A Lovely Love Story by Edward Monkton (a firm wedding favourite!)

On the run up to their day, Jess & Martyn asked if we could grab a photo under the archway at the brewery. And paired with a backlight, the rain helped to create some really epic shots. I left them to their evening shortly after cutting the two gorgeous cakes they’d chosen – one chosen by each of them!

Jess & Martyn’s day is a wonderful example of how hourly wedding coverage can work for a smaller wedding day (available Mon-Thurs) On their day, they opted for 4 hours to cover the excitement of everybody arriving, the ceremony itself and portraits afterwards. Sound like something you'd be looking for? Just get in touch and I'll be more than happy to help!

Venue: Shepherd Neame Brewery

They’re so beautiful, we couldn’t be happier! Thank you so much! We had so much fun with you. And thank you for sending our photos before Christmas, we can’t wait to show everyone.
